Abstract

Background: Diagnosis and management of neonate’s hemodynamic status with Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is challenging due to the multiplicity of etiologies and the unique characteristics of the pulmonary circulatory system. Aim: To report a case of neonatal pulmonary hypertension (PNH) in a newborn (NB) of a mother with chronic hypertension and gestational hypertension, attended at the Neonatology Service (NS) of the São Francisco University Hospital of Divine Providence (HUSF) – SP, Brazil. Method: The data related to the patient were obtained by checking their medical record, which was already filed at our Hospital. Conclusion: This report was about a successful case of PNH control and treatment in an NB born to a woman who presented superimposed pregnancy-specific hypertensive disease (DHGE) and HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelet count). The patient's condition was managed with the combined use of nitric oxide (NO), dobutamine and dopamine, in conjunction with mechanical pulmonary ventilation (PMV), non-invasive ventilation (CPAP) and oxygen halo.
