Last decades, the obesity is significantly growing in Brazil and in the world as well, turning to a serious public-health problem. Besides being a high-cost to the health system around the world, the obesity can cause the development of various diseases, as: Diabetes Mellitus type II, arterial hypertension, heart diseases, depression, cancer, etc. There are many nutritional strategies that are used as obesity treatment, including intermittent fasting and the carbohydrate-restrict diet. Objective: To compare the effects of intermittent fasting with the effects of a carbohydrate-restricted diet on nutritional support for adult patients with obesity. Method: A literature review with evidence synthesis was performed using the Publish or Perish tool with the following search strategy: Obesity AND (“intermittent fasting” OR “carbohydrate-restricted diet”). Conclusion: Both nutritional strategies are efficient on the obesity treatment, however, the carbohydrate-restricted diet proved to be more efficient than the intermittent fasting.
